RiF Behind the Screen: the AI
The idea to add a single player mode to ReconInForce was proposed about one year ago today. Initially RiF was supposed to only have online multiplayer. Just the thought of tackling a “human-like” strategy game AI was extremely daunting. But the reality was that most people wanted a way to play the game alone without having to wait on another person to take their turn. By that time in development I sort of had a grasp on how I thought the computer should play the game. Somehow I just had to program it… Realizing this would require a lot of non-computer time sitting around putting thoughts to paper, I strategically scheduled the RiF AI design kick-off to coincide with my wife and my hiking trip to Peru. What better time to reflect on video game creation than while sipping Pisco at Hostal Wara Wara’s rooftop bar in Cusco.
ReconInForce: Let’s Celebrate the Bugs
Last week ReconInForce Beta Testers played over 1,000 consecutive game sessions without a crash. I can’t think of a better way to celebrate this milestone than reminiscing about some of the more entertaining bugs that I came across while creating the game. After all, I think that somewhere inside every developer is a sadistic love for debugging. For me there’s something enticing about slapping on a set of headphones and dropping into an intensely focused hunt for an elusive bug. So without further adieu, I present an ode to the bugs that always kept me on my toes!
RiF (4600) Release Notes!
Hello Beta Testers,
Version 4600 is now available for testing! You’ll find that it contains a small number of important changes to the user interface and also addresses minor balance issues and bugs. All of these tweaks are based on feedback from Beta Testers like yourself. Keep up the good work and thanks for your continued support of ReconInForce!

RiF (4550) Release Notes!
Once again, the RiF Beta Testing team has impressed me with great content suggestions for ReconInForce! In this release you’ll find a whole new business model under the hood on the commander storefront. New users will be able to take the 501st, Royal Battery, and Iron Raiders on a one-time totally free test drive in either single player or multiplayer. And I’ve added a “Value Pack” of commanders allowing users to make a one time purchase to unlock all the content in the game at a huge discount.
Thanks to the participation of many Beta Testers in the RiF map survey, “the purge” has come to ReconInForce and raised the bar for what we’re calling good maps! By removing the unpopular maps from the rotation, players will now see increased time on the maps they love.
